Uh Oh! We've Got Birds!

Wonderfully engaging illustrations accompany the playful story of Young Oliver as he arrives home to discover that his house is infested, not with mice or bugs, but with birds. A wide variety of real-life birds; hummingbirds, roadrunners, puffins, and so many others, meet him at every turn all causing delightful chaos! Feeling overwhelmed, Oliver contacts Magic Mabel’s Critter Moving Company for help. While waiting for Mabel, he tours his house encountering lovable birds eating his food, hiding in the artwork, swimming in the bathtub, singing around the record player, and more! Magic Mabel arrives, disregards her poles, nets, and ladders, choosing instead a plain, empty, cardboard box to round up all the birds. The box is magic, she says with a gleam in her eye. They catch all the birds and release them outdoors where they belong. Now the birds are playing in the grass and hovering around flowers. They are swimming on the lake and flying in the breeze. Everything is great. Or is it?

Praise for Uh Oh! We've Got Birds!

As the grandmother of a four year old, I am always looking for that perfect picture book where both the illustrations and the words are such that we both want to read it again and again. And "Uh Oh, We've Got Birds" is just that book-the concept so clever, the illustrations so fun and happy that it just gets better after each reading. This is one you'll want to add to your pre-schooler's bookshelf.

What a joyful treat! While I am not a child (nor have I been for QUITE a while ; ) ), and I do not have a child, I absolutely LOVE this book!!! I couldn't stop smiling while reading it - the story is delightful and the illustrations are beautiful. If you know birds or want to know birds, if you love to smile, if you want to be happy, buy this book! Do what I did, and buy some extras for your friends - young or ...mature! I've purchased some for young, and some for young-at-heart friends and family. We could all use some more HAPPY these days!

Readers of all ages who are fans of nature and animals will love this engaging book. From the ‘cast of feathered characters’ to the subtle life lessons (Beauty’s within! All colors are great!) this book is a winner. Peter’s illustrations are delightful and I truly hope this is the first of many to come.

Such an adorable story. I love children's authors who get children interested in wildlife. The illustrations are beautiful and connect perfectly with the text. Obviously Peter has honed his artistic skill, and the result is a delightful book that will provide enjoyment for many years and many generations.

As a first grade teacher of 34 years, this is one of my favorites! The entertaining story immediately grabs your attention with a silly situation. The illustrations are beautiful and the bird drawings look more like photographs. Each page generates a lot of laughs. I appreciate the rich language and rhythm. I love the strong message the wise little nuthatch chirps out in the middle of the story, "Beauty's within! All colors are great!"

I loved this book! The author/illustrator does a seamless job mixing whimsy, magic and education. This is a rare example of a children’s book that will keep an inquisitive adult turning pages. There is a solid story line, mixed in with introductions to many bird species. For myself and my child, we had curiosity About where was this fun story going, and a pull to go to the internet to learn more about the birds that grabbed our interest. What fun!
